Mort Wallach Biography
Accomplishments
Mort Wallach, President of PEL Associates has a Ph.D. in
physical chemistry and was a Fulbright postdoc in polymer
physics. He has over 30 years experience in materials
research and development and its application to defense,
homeland security, and industrial requirements. Recent
projects involve development of award winning smart micro
sensors and smart self-renewable coatings with
submarine-based contracts from DARPA and NAVAIR.
Applications include: (for the sensors) anti-submarine
warfare, port security, aircraft safety, and (for the
coatings) aircraft deicing, ship anti-fouling, power plant
intakes, and CBW cleanup.
Dr. Wallach’s experience includes uncovering and
demonstrating new product opportunities, and the
development, scale-up, plant design, and commercialization
of new products. He has authored twenty three refereed
publications on materials development and structure, five
recent books, three recently issued patents, and six new
patent applications on smart micro products and
applications. PEL clients (over 200) include representatives
from medical, electrical, automotive, aerospace, marine,
industrial product, defense companies and government
agencies (DARPA, NAVAIR, ONR). He has extensive design,
development, application, and phase-in experience with many
products in various industries. Additional details can be
found on our web site at
www.pelassociates.com.
Project Management
Dr. Wallach managed the Anti-Submarine Sensor project for
DARPA Phase I and II, the Underwater Vehicle Tracking System
project for NAVAIR, and the Submarine Forward Escape Trunk
Hatch Cofferdam project for ONR. As head of Polymer Research
and Development at TRW, he was responsible for product and
process development, program management, and business
procurement. Dr. Wallach managed the technical aspects of
construction of compounding lines at Polysar to manufacture
the products developed and spearheaded entry into the
engineering plastics business by developing concepts and
successfully demonstrating their technical and business
advantages. He was a key player on the DuPont team that
developed Kapton polyimide film and conducted extensive work
on various plastics and films including PET, polyimide,
polyvinyl fluoride, polycarbonate, polypropylene, nylon, and
barrier composites.
